Microsoft Fingerprint Reader Review

Topic: Notebooks and PCs

Microsoft Fingerprint Reader Review Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Tweak News reviews the Microsoft Fingerprint Reader.

Quote:
"Finger print readers have been around for a long time - in Hollywood, where you most likely see them being used to access high security areas in action movies, but similarly they have been around for surprisingly a long time in army bases around the world. As time went on they found their way into corporate networks protecting vital company data before swiftly moving into our homes. Today you can pick up a good quality fingerprint reader in many shops but there is one that Microsoft is touting to be the best and it is pushing its technology into keyboards, bundling together with mice and as a separate fingerprint reader module, which is what is going to be reviewed here today."

HP Pavilion DV4000 - Now a Gaming Powerhouse

Topic: Notebooks and PCs

HP Pavilion DV4000 - Now a Gaming Powerhouse Future Technology News technology Review We now know that HP notebook designers lack the enthusiasm for gaming (or perhaps they couldn't figure out a way to cool down high-end GPUs without frying HP's reputation). Anyway, PCMag has a review of the HP Pavilion dv4000, which isn't a totally new notebook to those who followed the market. The interesting thing with the review unit is the dedicated ATI Mobility X700 128MB (without the lame Hyper-memory technology). That's a big leap from the integrated graphics. Also encouraging is that the X700 rivals the performance of the same GPU on a $2,100 Acer Ferrari 4000.
Additionally, you get both ExpressCard 34/54 and PCMCIA Type II slot; such combination is a novelty. There are four USB 2.0 ports, which is one more than what you see on similar 15.4" lappy. The dv4000 comes with a remote too. All these carry a price tag of $1,449. Read more

Topic: Notebooks and PCs

Sun Galaxy x86 Servers X4100, X4200 and X2100 Launch Today Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Sun Microsystems co-founder Andy Bechtolsheim is back at Sun and led the design of the new x86 based Galaxy Sun servers.

The Galaxy line of servers uses AMD Opteron CPUs. Sun for a long time did not offer x86 based servers and got hit big time by missing the boat on that trend.
Sun is now on 6th place in the x86 server sales. The Galaxy line should help to push Sun further ahead in this market.
Andy Bechtolsheim's return to Sun reminds me on Steve Jobs going back to Apple. It worked for Apple, maybe it does for Sun too. Read more

Are You Sick of Using Video Tapes in Camcorders?

JVC offers a line of Video Cameras that use Hard-drives instead of Video Tapes. JVC is still the only company that has Video Cameras on the market that use hard-drives to store DVD quality video. It is in my mind a very obvious solution in a complete digital environment that we are in now.
Nobody is questioning that we stopped use film in digital cameras. So why do still most video cameras on the market use tape? Sure the data volume is much higher for video, memory sticks or SD cards offer to little space to record hours of high quality videos. Now that portable hard-drives are used to store your complete music library it is of course also possible to record hours of high quality video on them.
Right now JVC offers three models with a 4GB hard-drive: The GZ-MC100 ($899.99), The GZ-MC200 ($998.94) and the new high-end GZ-MC-500 ($1,599.95). If you need more storage, JVC will start ship end of August the JVC Everio G-Series camcorders that boast 20 and 30GB hard-drives. That means up to 37 hours of video recording on the 30GB models and up to 25 hours on the 20GB model - Tape just died, as film did. Amazon.com opened pre-order on the new JVC Everio G-Series camcorders. You can get the GZ-MG20 for $799.95, the GZ-MG40 for $899.99 and the GZ-MG50 for $999.99.
